Reports are in that Nigerian football legend Kanu Nwankwo has lost his mother.
According to reports, Mrs Susan Kanu Iheme sadly passed away the 7th of September. There are no details as to cause of death of the mother of three.
Kanu began his career at Nigerian league club Federation Works, before moving to Iwuanyanwu Nationale. After a notable performance at the U-17 World Championships he was signed by Dutch Eredivisie AFC Ajax in 1993. After returning from the Olympics in 1996, Kanu had a medical examination which revealed he had a serious heart defect. He underwent surgery to replace an aortic valve and did not return to playing football until 1997.
Kanu’s experience led him to establish the Kanu Heart Foundation and during interviews, he frequently cites his faith and expresses his gratitude to his now late mother who is said to have told him that he will make her proud one day with his football talent.
Fan’s have taken to social media to mourn with the football star and also say kind words about his late mum.
